James Ellisor gets MVP of the Week award for Portuguese LPBOct 13, 2015

Received a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 25-year old forward had the game-high 24 points adding seven rebounds and two assists for Oliveirense in his team’s victory, helping them to crush Lusitania (0-2) with 18-point margin 80-62. Oliveirense maintains the 3rd position in Portuguese LPB. But it’s just the very beginning of the season and Oliveirense won both games without losing any. It’s too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team’s last game Ellisor had a remarkable 100.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Oliveirense’s top player in his first season with the team. Bemidji State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ellisor is in league’s top in points (3rd best: 19.0ppg) and averages solid 75.0% FGP and 100.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was 24-year old Canadian guard Jordan Baker (201-G-91) of Galitos-Tley. Baker impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Galitos-Tley lost that game 63-69 to CAB Madeira (1-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let’s wait for the next round. Baker is a newcomer at Galitos-Tley and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.0ppg (#1). He also registered 15.0 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was former international swingman Fabio Lima (198-F/G-88) of CAB Madeira. Lima scored 19 points and grabbed ten rebounds. He was a key player of CAB Madeira, leading his team to a 69-63 win against Galitos-Tley (0-1). Lima has a great season in Portugal. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 20.5ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 9.0rpg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Claudio Fonseca (206-C-89) of Benfica – 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Diogo Ventura (193-PG-94) of CAB Madeira – 8 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Dejan Pejic (196-G-93) of Barcelos – 14 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
